VCard now added plus new Flagged As Scotland game

Finally got around to adding a v card to http://www.christophercrawford.110mb.com. It was a bit more complicated as the main web host didn't allow vcard files to be uploaded but I managed to get around this by locating at a remote location.

I also completed a flash game that I have been working on since June uploading this yesterday. It is called Flagged As Scotland and is based on the highly successful game of Bejewelled. This can be found at http://www.cdbc81.plus.com/flaggedAsScotland/.

Its all go. Unfortunately I have still been unsuccessful on the job front. Now back to job applications...

Still plodding on...

Despite getting very low on one day last week I am still keeping up the job search and have more than made up for that days drifting.

I have found another few companies to contact speculatively in Dennistoun and the surrounding area. This adds to my prospective letters and emails to web design companies in Glasgow of a few weeks ago.

I am determined at some point this week to do the same for colleges in the Glasgow area, but so far I just haven't had the opportunity.

My personal business cards have arrived, and at some point soon a vcard will be added to my own website. I shall need to work around the fact that for some reason my web provider bars these files to be uploaded directly to the existing website meaning that it will need to be linked to a special site at another address. However this is not an insurmountable problem - it is just an odd one.

The busiest few weeks yet

It is unusual to go into the Job Centre to sign on and be told that 'you have been very busy trying to find a job haven't you?'.

Unfortunately so far my 'being very busy' has not resulted in even an interview. However it has increased the number of rejection emails/ letters I have been receiving which I take to be a positive these days.

Will just keep trying. What more can you do?

Busy updating online site again - 1st result from mailing

Have just been busy updating my online CV and web portfolio site once again at 'http://www.christophercrawford.110mb.com'.

This time I added links to this blog and my LinkedIn profile, and also updated the link to my Dads online gallery website which I had to move due to a disagreement with the web hosting company where it was hosted before.

It is back to the original address of 'http://www.cdbc81.me.uk'.

My first result came back from my mailing. It was a refusal but given the job market at the moment that is quite an achievement. And the company also said they would keep my name on file should any future positions become available.

May get around to adding a vcard and getting some proper personal business cards in the next days or so.

Haven't decided on a name for my sole trader business. It was meant to be CCWeb. However the discovery that this name was all ready used by another company put me off even although since they are situated abroad it would not illegal to use it. But I would prefer not to be CCWeb UK if I can avoid it. Any suggestions? Meadowpark Multimedia perhaps?

vcards, prospective letters, and no contact details on websites

It has surprised me when I have been doing research into completing prospective letters in my search for a job.

Quite often websites do not have company addresses on them, and when they don't frequently have nobody's name appearing on them.

This I find strange considering I would want to use a company that did not have an actual business contact address on their site. Having a real person to contact is also an advantage I would have thought since this immediately commences a personal relationship with the person enquiring about the company in question.

However despite all that I still managed to send about 20 prospective letters to multimedia and web design companies in the west of Scotland area. Here is hoping that one of the companies I contacted may have an opening for me in the near future.

I also discovered that several companies had v cards on their sites, about which I was completely unaware until today. One will be appearing on my portfolio site at http://www.christophercrawford.110mb.com in the not too distant future.

Just Discovered I passed with Distinction

Much to surprise on Thursday 29th July I had to return a form to state if I was going to return to Uni or not.

Imagine my surprise to read (I missed this on opening the letter many weeks ago) that I had not just passed my Degree but actually passed it with Distinction!

You could have knocked me over with a feather.

Welcome to the CCCVandWEB blog

My name is Christopher Crawford and I live in Glasgow on the west coast of Scotland.

I grew up in Troon in Ayrshire where I went to Troon Primary and Marr College (secondary school). I then went to college in Glasgow to study printing at the then Glasgow College of Building And Printing (now Glasgow Metropolitan College) achieving a 3 year HND in Printing Administration and Production in 1990.

I worked in the area of printing and publishing for approximately 16 years. I gained a wide experience working as a print estimator, production controller and manager, and also in sales and a lecturer in print related subjects.

In 2006 I was made redundant from HarperCollins Publishers which was not unexpected given the changes brought about by new technology. I always intended to go back and study and now was my chance.

I returned to education in autumn 2007 having had a taster in web design in an evening class at the University of Strathclyde. My first year, the HNC in Multimedia Computing: Web Development was at Stow College. The second HND year was at Central College where I became the student class representative and gained the Charles Oakley Award for best in course 2008/2009. It also meant the achievement of my second HND qualification.

I then progressed to the University of the West of Scotland in Paisley where I studied for and passed a BSc Multimedia Technology (which includes Interactive Media Creation).

In my working life I have gained a reputation as a trustworthy and reliable person who communicates and interacts well with others and who has a flexible attitude, being able to adapt to any given situation. I am responsive to training and enjoy the learning experience. I have developed a range of interpersonal skills to solve problematic situations and I am willing to undertake any additional training to meet with an employer’s requirement. I can work on own merit while also appreciating the importance of the team dynamic.

Combined with my previous experience in printing and publishing, my recent training in interactive media means I have all round skills in the creation of media both traditional and digital. I also have successfully worked in production management, sales and have general office and administrative experience.

My primary areas of experience and expertise are in...

Interactive Multimedia Development
Web Design and Development
Print Administration and Management
Print and Material Buying
Publishing Administration and Management
Production Planning, Control and Management
Sales and Customer Liason
Trainer/ Lecturer
Office Duties
Administrative Duties

I am a keen gardener, enjoy yoga, piano and keyboard playing, 1970s and 1980s television shows, and have a large collection of British comics about which I produced my second year project website. I enjoy using the computer and surfing the net.
